I like the Campaign and By Night ideas a lot. I'd use them with different mechanics though. New Card Type Campaign Rules: Before a game, each Methuselah may put a Campaign card in a Campaign stack in the middle of the table. The player who starts with 1 transfer shuffles these cards and his or her predator cuts the stack. During a Methuselah's Discard phase, they may burn the Edge and 1 pool to reveal and activate the top card of the Campaign stack, then shuffle any previously active Campaign back into the stack. Any vampire claiming uncontested title to the Campaign city gains +1 intercept when attempting to block, and may burn 1 blood to gain 1 stealth during an action once each turn. Examples of Campaign cards: Marseille By Night Campaign All minions gain +1 stealth when equipping with weapons. Any vampire claiming uncontested title to Marseilles also gets an additional maneuver or press each combat. Venezia By Night Campaign All minions gain +1 stealth when recruiting Zombies. Any vampire claiming uncontested title to Venezia spends one less pool or blood when recruiting Zombies. Orpheus' mechanic allows Methuselahs to fight over a given City for the entire game. I picture it slightly differently. The entire World of Darkness is in flames. At any given time, the world Campaign may change focus to a different city (Campaign cards may switch during a game), and each Meth may end up with an advantage (because you designed your deck to work best with your chosen Campaign). New Card Text By Night Rule: When a Campaign is active, cards with By Night text may have a different effect when played or in play. Examples (not necessarily balanced, just to give the general idea) : Chicago Blues Master Chicago By Night 1 pool. This vampire makes +1 damage when striking with guns. If Chicago By Night is in play, this vampire makes +2 damage when striking with guns. The City That Never Sleeps Reaction New York By Night This vampire gets +1 intercept against (D) actions at his or her controller. If New York By Night is in play, as above but with +2 intercept. Drinking the Lifeblood Political Action Los Angeles By Night Choose a Methuselah. If this referendum is successful, that Methuselah loses 2 pool and you gain 2 pool. If Los Angeles by Night is in play, as above except but the chosen Methuselah loses 3 pool and you gain 3 pool. Giving the Blood +1 stealth Action Montreal By Night Put this card on the acting vampire. This vampire can take a +1 stealth action to move 2 blood from the blood bank to a vampire of the same sect in your uncontrolled region. If Montreal By Night is in play, this vampire can take a +1 stealth action that costs 1 blood to move 3 blood from the blood bank to a vampire of the same sect in your uncontrolled region. Not all cards have to refer to a specific city, but they could be mentioned generically. Absolute Ruler Master Card By Night 1 pool Put this card on a ready vampire who claims uncontested title over a city. This vampire has +1 vote and +1 bleed while titled. Burn this card if this vampire loses his or her title. All your other Princes, Archbishop or Barons have -1 vote. If the Campaign for this vampire's city is active, this ready vampire gains 1 blood during each of your Untap phases. At any rate, I really like the Campaign and By Night ideas. There are so many possibilities which can give players a bit more ability to customize their decks to do certain things without radically changing game balance. No matter it would be implemented, injecting a bit more flavor of the World of Darkness into VTES would be surely welcomed. Jeff "Jeff Kuta"
