Hot Sects in Boston 2006
(Sabbat War | Final Nights | Camarilla Edition | Anarchs | Black Hand | Kindred Most Wanted | Legacies of Blood )
RULES:
- Each player chooses a team. Teams will be as evenly distributed as possible.
- If there are exactly 8 or 12 or 16 players, there will be no Anarch team.
- Each
player (except those on the Anarch team) chooses a Starter deck from
his or her team (from whatever is available at the store, or private
collections of sealed merchandise).
- * The Anarch team chooses last. If you choose to be on the Anarch team:
- You may choose any remaining starter.
- If
you choose a deck other than Barons/Gangs, you may add 4 copies of
Galaric's Legacy/Go Anarch (in any combination) to your cardbase. These
will be supplied to you if necessary (but you must return them at the
end of the event).
- Each player gets (or reconstructs **) 1 copy of his own starter.
- **
We will try and have one of each starter available, reconstructed from
private collections (and temporarily lendable) if necessary. If there
is a starter you have your heart set on, but are unsure that it will be
available for sale, please try to bring the starter with you. Hopefully
we will have a list available before the event.
- Each player gets any combination of 6 White
Wolf boosters he wants (from whatever is available at the store, or
private collections of sealed merchandise).
- These boosters are drafted, at tables containing one player from each team (or as well-balanced as possible)
- After drafting, members of each team may convene to build their decks. All cards drafted
may be shared amongst your teammates, but cards from the starters may
not be. Decks must consist of at least 12 crypt cards and 40-90 library
cards.
- Each player may add *one* card from
their personal collection (or borrowed from someone else) from the 10th
Anniversary tins, to their deck. (Yes this includes all the reprints,
including the vampires, but you still only get one card; it may be the
non-10th-anniversary printing of the reprint, but no Jyhad-backed cards
are allowed in this event). Some 10th anniversary cards will be
supplied by the organizer, and people are encouraged to bring their own
for lending, but proxies will be allowed for this one card. The chosen
card must be cleared with the organizer beforehand if it does not bear
the 10th anniversary expansion symbol. (This card is not sharable with
your teammates).
- All drafted (non-starter, non-10th-anniversary) cards that are not in decks are then collected by the organizer into a prize pool.
- All other standard Limited rules apply. (no Grouping Rule, banned cards are still banned, etc)
- 3
regular 2-hour rounds will be played. Seating will attempt to make sure
that each table has no 2 members of the same team; we will do our best.
If multiple members of the same team end up at a table, they must still
respect the rules regarding collusion, and must individually play to
win.
- There is no "Final Round".
- There is nothing
stopping you from using vampires of a different sect than your chosen
team. For example, if you choose to play as Ishtarri, for the Laibon
team, but everyone takes the cardless action to Go Anarch and uses
Anarch cards, you are still considered to be playing for the Laibon.
- The player with the most VICTORY POINTS is declared the winner. Game Wins are ignored, although Tournament Points are used to resolve ties, so GW are still important.
- The team with the most total Victory Points is the winning sect. They will receive the "prize pool" mentioned above, to distribute amongst themselves as they wish.

Original announcement on the rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad newsgroup:
So if you happen to be in the Boston area, we're going to be running a
special-format Sect Wars event on Sunday, March 12, 2006.
The format is so "special", that it's not sanctioned, but I'm trying to
get a good level of participation. The ideal number of participants
would be 20.
The rules we'll be using are here:
http://www.monocleofclarity.com/ClanWar2006.html
Note that there are some really interesting exceptions; the ability to
use 10th Anniversary Reprint cards (which never get any love in Draft),
and the ability for any starter to be Anarch. I worked on these rules
for awhile, and I hope they're balanced.
I'm not looking for major criticisms of them, but the nature of usenet
is such that I'll get them anyway. Heh.
(Oh, and, sorry about the ugly colors; it was also a brief exercise in
basic stylesheets ;) )
If you are going to be in Boston that weekend, and you're interested in
the event, or if you have any questions about it, please email me at
jodaff // at \\ yahoo.com (if you have a starter/team in mind, also let me know)
Thanks
