"If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid."
- Epictetus

The True Brujah's mastery of time gives them abilities no other clan
possesses. It is this ability which truly separates them from other
clans in the Eternal Struggle. The following is a discussion of the
various effects of Temporis, but is on a by-vampire basis as most
"True Brujah" decks actually only use one of the clan as a
"star" vampire or in a supporting role to another deck idea
(Synesios in a Followers of Set Free States Rant deck, for instance).

I apologize in advance for the brief nature of most of my explanations
below, but there is a wealth of information and I don't wish to make
each elucidation an essay in and of itself. These are mainly
brainstorm-type ideas. If there is an idea herein that you find obtuse,
reply to this newsletter post and it will be discussed in detail. The
original newsletter contained all of the Temporis cards, but it was
crazy-long. For this reason, I'll concentrate on new Temporis cards
this month.

The Unusual Suspects

Each vampire has some unique capabilities and out-of-clan (OOC)
disciplines that work in different ways with the various Temporis
effects. Also, since all True Brujah are 7-cap and above they all
possess superior Temporis and have a wide and varied range of OOC
disciplines.

Ye New School

Card Name: Ibn Khaldun, Scholar
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: LoB
Sect: Independent
Clan: True Brujah
Group: 4 (G4)
Capacity: 7
Discipline: for POT PRE TEM
Cardtext: During your discard phase, Ibn Khaldun may burn a blood to
untap. He cannot use cards that require Celerity. Scarce.

The only True Brujah with only one OOC discipline, Ibn is also the
youngest True Brujah with all three in-clan disciplines at superior.
Her Concordance-like ability allows her to be untapped for reacting to
opposing minions after an action or even if under the effects of a card
like Mind Numb or Sensory Deprivation.

Card Name: Al-Muntaquim, The Avenger
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: LoB
Sect: Independent
Clan: True Brujah
Group: 4
Capacity: 8
Discipline: TEM POT FOR obf pre
Cardtext: During your untap phase you may burn a Caitiff
you control to give Al-Muntaquim +1 bleed for the remainder of
the game. Al-Muntaquim untaps whenever a Gehenna card is
played. He cannot use cards that require Celerity. Scarce.

The new True Brujah have superior OOC disciplines, unlike the original
Group 2 (G2) True Brujah. Al-Muntaquim is the oldest True Brujah
without all three in-clan disciplines at superior. His OOC Obfuscate
allows him to use some Temporis cards at three different levels instead
of two. He was discussed in detail in the November 2005 True Brujah
newsletter.

Card Name: Nehemiah
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: LoB
Sect: Independent
Clan: True Brujah
Group: 4
Capacity: 9
Discipline: obt POT PRE SER TEM
Cardtext: Nehemiah has 2 votes (titled).
During your untap phase, you may move up to
two cards from your hand to the bottom of your
library (draw afterward). Nehemiah cannot
use cards that require Celerity. Scarce.

Nehemiah's card-cycling special is great for toolbox decks or for decks

with layers of complexity. If there are cards that are more useful in
the end-game than in the beginning and they are drawn early, they can
be placed at the bottom of the deck. His ability makes me wonder whether a

"Twister"-style deck could be built with him using Brujah Antitribu
support for Waste Management Operation. The burn-option cards would not
be as necessary because Nehemiah can just place cards on the bottom of the
library instead of burning 3-5 per turn. Permanents will be key in this
kind of deck.

His two votes are asking for some attention as well. Reinforcements
could be included in the twister-deck to recycle extra cards back into
the library and shuffle it as needed, though they would be only useable
once as they are removed from the game when played. Free States Rant is
another great vote for him, since he has Serpentis to play Form of
Corruption for vampire-heisting.

His superior Serpentis gives him access to cards that place corruption
counters on minions, additional stealth and maneuvers via Form of the
Serpent, bleed reduction with Ecstasy (+Quicksilver Contemplation +
Banner of Neutrality = -4 bleed), and interesting combat combinations.
With Heart of Darkness he gains damage prevention and treats aggravated
wounds as normal wounds, which would make Improvised Flamethrower a
little more playable. Typhonic Beast and Skin of the Adder give him +2
strength, prevent two damage per round, and a press to continue combat.
With immortal grapples and traps this is an excellent combination for
sending a vampire to torpor, and there are two Laibon from the new set
who have POT SER PRE to match him, Maskini and Bupe Kuila. The Jones makes
an excellent supplement to Lapse and/or Immortal Grapple combat, as it is
cheaper than Lapse and with IG it can be used to cancel the opposing
minion's only strike. If he is supporting weenie-Potence vampires,
Nehemiah can place Mark of Damnation on them and then use Inspire
Greatness to give the weenies +4 strength and a press while in combat with the
unfortunate target. He can also use the outferior version of Frozen
Object if it is known that there is a pile of equipment cards in an enemy's
hand.

As Followers of Set have in-clan access to Obfuscate and there are two
Temporis cards with Obfuscate outferior powers, FoS get along with
Nehemiah just fine. Ezekiel, Bupe Kuila, and Caglisotro have Potence in
some form for additional discipline-synergy.
His inferior Obtenebration has some uses, but the first and most
interesting I can think of is that there is now a True Brujah with
access to non-Caseless Rounds additional strikes. He can get Black Metamorphosis
immediately to gain an additional strike each round, which is nice for
any combat deck. He also can get free maneuvers from Fae Contortion and
Shadow Step, which is nice as several Potence strikes can only be
played at long range and Potence has little access to maneuvers. The
greatest asset of Obtenebration is the transient stealth and intercept
available. This will help him sneak his votes and Form of Corruptions
past enemy vampires with Shadow Play, Shroud of Night, and other stealth
cards, or block with Eyes of the Night and/or Darksight. If he gets superior
Obtenebration, he can send vampires to torpor with Entombment and dodge
with an additional strike with Arms of the Abyss. Descent into Darkness
is a good card to use with him, as it will allow you to bring another True
Brujah into play without triggering the Scarce penalty .
Darkness Within, Lapse, and Tongue of the Serpent steal three blood
from an opponent who cannot strike and the combo pays for itself.

Obtenebration also helps him play well with the Lasombra and therefore
gives him by-association access to bounce. There are two Temporis cards
with Dominate outferior abilities, Hall of Hades' Court and Clio's
Kiss. There are two Group 3 and 4 Lasombra with Presence at the
superior level, Giangaleazzo and Tobias Smith. Tyler (nine-capacity Brujah
Primogen) also has superior Potence and Presence and inferior Dominate
and Obtenebration.

Ye Olde School

Cardname: Krassimir
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: BL
Sect: Independent
Group: 2
Clan: True Brujah
Capacity: 7
Discipline: dom nec POT pre TEM
Cardtext: Independent: Once each turn, when blocked, Krassimir can
untap and cancel the current action and combat (do not tap the blocking
minion). Krassimir cannot use cards that require Celerity [cel].
Scarce.
The only True Brujah capable of bounce without the use of skill cards
or the Seal of Vedarrtha, Krassimir plays well with Giovanni powerbleed
due to her discipline spread and Wake-defying special.

Cardname: Synesios
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: BL
Sect: Independent
Group: 2
Clan: True Brujah
Capacity: 8
Discipline: obf POT PRE ser TEM
Cardtext: Independent: Synesios has 2 votes. You may pay a pool when
you play a Master: Out-of-Turn card to gain an extra master phase
action in your next master phase. Synesios cannot use cards that
require Celerity [cel]. Scarce.
Synesios is at home playing with the Followers of Set because of his
OOC disciplines, but he can also play most Temporis cards at outferior
as well as the inferior and superior Temporis versions due to his
Obfuscate and Serpentis. His special, while expensive, can ruthlessly
crush your prey's master-card bloat engine when combined with Sudden
Reversal, Rewind Time, and/or Bleeding the Vine.

Cardname: Nu, The Pillar
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: BL
Sect: Independent
Group: 2
Clan: True Brujah
Capacity: 9
Discipline: ani aus POT PRE pro TEM
Cardtext: Independent: Once during your minion phase, Nu can burn a
blood to untap. Nu cannot use cards that require Celerity [cel].
Scarce.
Nu is still the best True Brujah in my opinion. His permanent "burn a
blood to untap" ability is strong in any deck worthy of either taking
two actions in a turn (multi-rush, for instance), or any deck which
requires untapped vampires to react. The new Quicksilver Contemplation
is good for Nu as he can use it for three varying effects as soon as he
is ready. He has more OOC clan disciplines than any other True Brujah,
but sadly shares none with other clan members.

Ye Honorable Mention

Cardname: Ian Forestal
Cardtype: Vampire
Set: Sabbat, BH
Sect: Sabbat
Group: 2
Clan: Tremere antitribu
Capacity: 8
Discipline: AUS DOM THA
Cardtext: Sabbat: Ian may play cards that require a Discipline as
though he has the basic level of that Discipline. Each Master:
Discipline card placed on him gives him the superior level of that
Discipline.

Ian is a good backup for the G2 True Brujah. He's kind of like the
token 4-capacity vampire with all clan disciplines at basic for the
True Brujah (e.g. Ignatius, 4-cap Tremere with aus dom tha). He can
play Temporis, Potence, and Presence cards at the basic level and since
he's actually an 8-cap it's almost like he's Scarce. In all
seriousness, he's a decent addition to any deck that features
Temporis with Dominate (Krassimir) or Temporis with Auspex (Nu). He can
gain superior Temporis through an Infernal Pact or Spontaneous Power,
and it just so happens that having superior Dominate is pretty good for
almost any deck.

Like Sand in the Hourglass, these are the Nights of Our Unlives

New Temporis Cards

Card Name: Hall of Hades Court
Cardtype: Act Mod/React
Set: LoB
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: dom/TEM
Cardtext: Only usable during a referendum
[dom] [act mod] Requires a vampire with a capacity above 4. This
vampire gains 2 votes.
[tem] [act mod][react] Cancel a reaction card as it is played by a
younger vampire who does not have Temporis (no costs are paid)
TEM [act mod] [react] Multiplier. Only usable by a ready untapped
vampire other than the acting vampire. The acting Vampire's votes are
doubled when votes are tallied. Only one multiplier can be played on a
vampire each action.

Outferior/General: Nice for non-weenie Dominate decks that want to push
votes. I'm glad if a DOM deck has one less Conditioning and one more
of these. That the Temporis effects can be played as either an action
modifier or reaction makes this card extremely versatile.
Ibn: Ibn can use this card with basic Temporis to cancel reaction
cards during a referendum, but only being a 7-cap will hinder the
usefulness of this ability. Pushing her weenie-Presence support
vampires' votes with this card is decent, and Ibn can also play
Inspire Greatness for +2 strength and Shared Strength to help those
Presence weenies if a political action is blocked.
Al: Al doesn't have superior Presence, and so he won't fit into as
many vote decks and therefore the superior version is not as useful for
him.
Nehemiah: Nehemiah has the votes to support the superior version of
this card, and the ability to cancel a reaction card is even more
useful for him if he is voting and other Methuselahs are playing
anti-vote cards. Cancel a Delaying Tactics or a Confusion of the Eye to
make that Free States Rant pass.
Krassimir: As the only Trujah with Dominate, Krassimir reaps serious
rewards from this card: She can use it all three levels. She can push
votes with her inferior Dominate, a decent addition because of her
Inferior Presence, and she can also use the superior to pump another
vampire's votes.
Synesios: Synesios' votes can help support both Temporis versions of
this card, since he can cancel a vote card or support your other
vampire's votes.
Nu: Nu vote decks are not incredibly plentiful, but in a pure True
Brujah deck votes are likely a part of the ousting mechanism, as they
have Presence as an in-clan discipline. Nu can benefit a storyline
legal True Brujah deck by multiplying another True Brujah's votes
with this card or by canceling an opposing minion's Delaying Tactics.
Ian: Ian can play two versions of this card, but since he sees so
little use in vote decks it is not as useful to him.

Card Name: Hourglass of the Mind
Cardtype: Action
Set: LoB
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: Temporis/Potence
Cardtext: +1 stealth action.
[pot] Draw three cards. Discard afterward.
[tem] Draw four cards then put four cards from your hand on top of your
library in any order and untap this vampire.
[TEM] Put this card on this acting vampire. During your untap phase,
this vampire may burn 2 blood to add a counter to this card. While this
vampire is ready, you get +X hand size, where X is the number of
counters on this card.

Outferior/General: Card cycling and increased hand size for the True
Brujah was desperately needed. Celerity, the replacement for Temporis
in the False Brujah, has several cards that cycle, including
Distraction, Flurry of Action, and Infernal Pursuit. Temporis, being
the unmarred and pure distillation of vulgar Celerity (to paraphrase
Nancy A Collins), needed a decent card-cycler to help represent. Having
extra cards enables longer combos and allows small defense packages a
better chance to get in-hand.
Ibn & Al: These two fit well together in a Potence and Fortitude
fight-deck. There are quite a few vampires in G3 and G4 that share
several disciplines with them as well to support this idea, and having
an increased hand size is awesome for combat decks. Support vampires
can help cycle by performing the outferior as well. This card can also
help offset a hand size disadvantage due to the "do not replace
(until X)" clause on several Gehenna cards, and both of these
vampires can be untapped during the discard phase if Gehenna cards are
being played; Al untaps when one is played, and Ibn can burn a blood to
do the same.
Nehemiah: Nehemiah's special also combines well with this card. The
ability to cycle two cards that are not currently useful onto the
bottom of the deck in combination with this card at superior should
guarantee a great hand almost every turn. The other versions are
equally useful for the same reasons.
Krassimir: Combined with Necromancy recursion cards, HotM can be used
to keep several combos in-hand at once with room to spare for cycling.
Still, the younger True Brujah don't have the blood to spare for the
superior version, so the inclusion of cards like Perfectionist and
Palatial Estate is important to keep the them healthy.
Synesios: Use HotM with Synesios to keep hand size up and use an
"anti-master" module of Sudden Reversals and Rewind Times to insure
an unhappy prey, or even an unhappy table. Just be sure to pack a
Giant's Blood, Palatial Estate, and Voter Captivation (because there
has to be a way to oust. KRC!) to keep blood on Synesios.
Nu: Nu has been used in multi-rush decks featuring the Eye of Hazimel
for some time, and using this card to increase hand size can offset the
"do not replace" text from Dragonbound. Nu can play Taste of Vitae
after punching for a half-dozen to help pay for the extra hand size.
Ian: Ian can only use the inferior Temporis version, but in a deck
where having a 6-card combo is necessary this is incredibly useful.

Card Name: Quicksilver Contemplation
Cardtype: Action modifier/reaction
Set: LoB
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: TEM AUS
Cardtext: [aus] [reaction] +1 intercept
[tem] [reaction] Reduce a bleed against you by 2.
[aus] [tem] [action modifier] [Reaction] Only usable during a
referendum. Force a younger vampire to abstain from voting.
This can cancel that vampire's votes.
[AUS] [TEM] [modifier] +2 bleed.

Ibn, Al: These two have a special that allows them to untap after
acting during their minion phase, so this card is useful for any deck
that utilizes their specials. In addition they can both reduce a bleed
by one more with a Banner of Neutrality (if the acting vampire is
Camarilla or Sabbat, any word on Laibon errata?) or by four with a
Friend of Mine if they are anarchs. This becomes five if they combine
the three cards, as anarchs are independent and can still use Banner of
Neutrality.
Nehemiah: He can also use Banner of Neutrality and Friend of Mine, but
Friend of Mine would be the Obtenebration version. This combines well
with Free States Rant and Nehemiah's votes. Anarch Cessation is
necessary to make him an anarch, however. This is risky because it is
an action, and therefore blockable.
Krassimir & Synesios: These vampires may end up untapped after your
minion phase, and if so they will benefit from having a reaction card
to play during their predator's bleed actions in addition to Rewind
Time.
Nu & Ian: These two gain the most from this card as they can play it at
three different levels for starters. The inferior Temporis and
outferior Auspex versions are both great for pool defense, and having
the inferior Temporis and Auspex version can help against a power-vote
deck that uses younger vampires. The basic Temporis version is great
with Telepathic Counter to reduce a bleed by four.

But the real power is in the double-superior version of this card, as
this version has a +2 bleed with no "this acting vampire cannot play
an action modifier to increase the bleed after playing this card"
text. So Nu can potentially bleed for seven with superior Auspex, a
Legal Manipulations, this card, and an Iron Glare. If he uses Pulse of
the Canaille (at superior) and Heart of the City he can potentially
bleed for 11. He can use Temporis to cancel a block with Recurring
Contemplation and Approximation of Loyalty and Crocodile's Tongue to
cancel other blocks or reaction cards. Ian Forestal with an Infernal
Pact for superior Temporis can use Dominate to bleed with a Govern the
Unaligned, using Seduction and/or the Sleeping Mind to cancel one
block, Recurring Contemplation to cancel another, and Quicksilver
Contemplation, Command of the Beast, and Conditioning for a nine bleed.
He also has superior Thaumaturgy for Perfect Clarity.

Card Name: Recurring Contemplation
Cardtype: Action modifier
Set: LoB
Cost: 0 blood
Discipline: TEM PRE
Cardtext: Only usable when the action is announced.
[pre] Choose an ally. He or she cannot block this action. Only one RC
may be played each turn.
[tem] As [pre] above, but choose an ally or younger vampire.
[TEM] As [tem] above, and burn 1 blood to tap the chosen minion.

Ibn & Nehemiah: Anti-block cards are always nice, especially for a clan

with a dearth of stealth options. This one can help get those critical
Political Actions to referendum. On top of that, a tap-and-vote deck
with Ibn and Nehemiah would be interesting, as they can use this card
during a Domain Challenge action to tap a younger vampire prior to
referendum and untap before resolution if they have a Clotho's Gift
at Superior, adding to the pool damage done to the prey and reducing
damage to their controller.
Al: Al can get some benefit from this card when he's been munching
Caitiff and his bleed is at +4, using it to cancel a block and/or tap a
younger vampire who may be waiting to bounce. His spread is well-suited
to combat, however, and to that end he can also use it during a
superfluous action (e.g. Elemental Stoicism, equip actions, hunting) to
tap a younger vampire, and then untap with a Freak Drive, Domain of Evernight, or
Clotho's Gift and Ambush or Harass the now-tapped vampire.
Krassimir: Krassimir loves this card. With her inferior Dominate she
can now prohibit two younger vampires from blocking with Seduction and
a third tapped minion with The Sleeping Mind. With this, Mind
Numb, Jar the Soul and the multiple ways for her to untap during the
minion phase she can tap several minions per turn whilst her support
vampires do the dirty work. While working with powerbleeders, she can
tap a younger vampire with bounce capability and do a Wake-check at the
same time with her special if the effected younger vampire is the
prey's last untapped ready minion.
Synesios: Synesios has always been a staple in crypt-machine decks that
utilize his inferior Obfuscate with Obfuscate weenies and Enchant
actions. He can bring up a horde of minions using Clotho's Gift and
Enchant Kindred, and now while he is doing so he can tap a younger vampire to
reduce the chance of those weenies being blocked later the same turn.
Nu: Nu can do some serious damage with this card. When an opponent is
constantly throwing weenie or ally "Chump-Blockers" in front of him, he
can use this card to cancel that block and acquire his preferred
target. He can use Approximation of Loyalty to cancel another block
from a minion with a capacity below 7, and if the enemy
is recycling the same empty chump blocker (saving them from torpor
every turn) a Crocodile's Tongue will make the action unblockable. If he has
acquired superior Auspex somehow, he can front-load a bleed for a ton
(Legal Manipulations + Quicksilver Contemplation + Iron Glare = +6
Bleed) and use this card to tap a potential blocker, Crocodile's Tongue
to fail another block unless two blood is paid, and Approximation of
Loyalty to cancel a bounce card played by a vampire with a capacity
below 7. Sure, that costs 3 blood, 4 to tap with Recurring Contemplation,
but Trujah are known for their blood-spending problems, and many decks
plan accordingly. This is why Perfectionist was created as far as I am
concerned. I may be biased.

Card Name: Tangle Atropos Hand
Cardtype: Action modifier
Set: LoB
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: pot/TEM
Cardtext: Only usable when a minion is attempting to block
[pot] Cancel the action and untap the acting minion. (The blocking
minion is not tapped.)
[tem] as [pot] above, and take the action card, if any, back into your
hand. (discard afterward.)
[TEM] As [tem] above, and this vampire gets +1 stealth on his or her
next action this turn.

All: If I understood a newsgroup post about this card correctly, the
vampire playing it can play the same action again because it lacks the
"This vampire cannot attempt the same action this turn" text that
Change of Target possesses. So essentially, it is a +1 stealth for the
True Brujah that can also burn a Wake from an opposing Methuselah.
Nice. It is more expensive than Change of Target with a one-blood cost,
but since even with inferior Temporis Ian Forestal can take the action
card back into hand it's worth it. For a clan with poor stealth
options, this card is invaluable.
Al: If Al has been given a large bleed by burning Caitiff, this card is
excellent to test for wakes and bleed at stealth if they block. A
lose-lose situation for the prey.
Krassimir: This one is a boon to Krassimir, who already possesses a
Change of Target ability. With her superior Temporis she can attempt a
ridiculous amount of actions against a tapped-out prey and consistently
cancel them if she is blocked. This could infuriate a wall-deck prey
who has tapped out to bleed or block their prey. Her special + Change
of Target + Psychomachia Presence outferior + Tangle Atropos' Hand is
four canceled actions, one of them at +1 stealth from TAH. Who needs
stealth or combat cards?

This is a G3-4 Lasombra-ish vote deck with Nehemiah as the
centerpiece. There is a Seal of Vedarrtha for dom on Nehemiah. I'm
running Obtenebration skill cards because half of the crypt does not
have superior.

Originally i had a lot of Clotho's gift and Domain of Evernight in the
deck, but it seemed unweildy given that none of the other vampires will
ever be able to use those cards. I dropped them in favor of a couple of
Thrown Gates, two Political Seizure and two Clio's Kiss. Those two
cards combo well, and if a media outlet is giving you hell on your
actions you can heist it (or at least make the owner burn a couple of
pool for it). The Minion Tap/Voter Cap agnle should keep you healthy
enough to afford the contest.

Get Ian superior temporis with a Spontaneous Power (which will also

an even bigger !Tremere superior Temporis via the Infernal Pact. Bleed
for 9 consistantly afterward. Wipe up the Dominate slime-trail that you
leave in your wake when you 're done. Say something like "It's a

powerbleed deck.

Use Hourglass of the Mind at inferior Temporis to set up the long
bleed-combo of Govern/Seduction/Recurring Contemplation/maybe Sleeping
Mind (3 failed blocks)maybe Perfect Clarity (screw deflections) / Quicksilver
Contemplation / Command of the Beast / Conditioning for a +8 bleed total.
If stuck with extra copies of Infernal Pact or Spontaneous Power and no
Dreawms to cycle them use the outferior potence version of Hourglass to
flush them out of hand (if you can spare the action/turn of bleeding).

The deck works on speed, so oust ASAP and keep the momentum moving.
