02/10/2002 Editors Corner - Ethan Burrow, Prince of Austin Stan During in his recent installment of the Toreador Newsletter made the statement - "I wrote that we had been given an ally in the Daughters of Cacophony. Having tried it out with a couple of twinclan decks I'll withdraw that thought. They simply don't cooperate well enough with the Toreador to be worth mixing in." While this statement may be true for the Toreador, I've had success mixing the Daughters in with the Toreador-Antitribu for Bleed and Voting decks. I think the selection of vampires may be a factor, as there are 2 Toreador-Antitribu with Fortitude and all but one have presence. This issue I'll focus mostly on the Daughters and the cards they come with, but by no means am I done with them. This is just the tip of the iceberg. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vampire of the Month - Céleste, The Voice of a Secret Another weenie presence vampire, good for bleed and vote decks. Just about as good as using Lolita in a core Toreador-Antitribu deck, you trade being in clan for a corner case but useful special. I mean, she hates the Cammie Toreador, she's gotta love working for our clan. She has a tough time blocking bleeds, but she wasn't really going to anyways was she ;-) On top of that, add her to your Toreador-Antitribu vote deck and you could throw in about 3-6 Melpominee cards such as Madrigal and Echo of Harmonies without really degrading your deck. She's awesome to include simply for being a cheap vampire, but you can also add some toolbox flavor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Card of the Month - The Missing Voice The biggest drawback to the Toreador-Antitribu and Toreador is lack of stealth options. While this is also true of Brujah, people are more afraid to block them than us. Until now we've only had one card - Alacrity that costs 2 blood! So any card, however restricted, that allows our clan some ability to succeed with their actions should be looked at. I've explored this card purely at the outferior (i.e. inferior celerity) and discovered that it is useful, but mostly only for clans that only have Celerity as their stealth discipline. Every vampire in our clan that has Celerity with the exception of Carter can play this card, so you don't have to worry too much about whether it can be playable. It's a matter of whether the end effect is useful, although it's easily cycleable even if it ends up being useless. By itself I would agree that it's almost not worth using just for the outferior. However since it is useful against weenies it does cause your prey/predator to think more about who takes actions and who to leave up to block. If they're playing a deck that requires their big guy to act, and weenies to block, then you either force them to not play their decks strengths, or you can play to your decks strengths. Unfortunately Zillah's Valley and Bloodlines vampires has brought the average playing capacity up, making this card even harder to utilize. Desperate to get this card to work so I can start stealthing with Toreador Antitribu, I went looking for another card to combo with. I found this combo in The Signet of King Saul. A vampire equipped with the Signet, and then playing The Missing Voice, basically limits the blocking vampires to the capacitys of 5,6, and 7 assuming they're not playing with intercept. Throw in Alacrity, and you might very well start panicking your prey :-) Even better, play with skills cards such as Quietus and throw them on 7 capacity vampires, making them too old to block. I've found that the Signet and Missing Voice has greatly decreased the number of times my minions are blocked, and might very well be a reliable way to get past light to no intercept. I've taken to playing with Vast Wealth and no other equipment other than the Signet, so that I don't lose the Signet if I am blocked trying to get it. Clearly the Intercept wall will still stop you, but you didn't expect to get past those guys anyways. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PAAD - 'Presence And Another Discipline' featured module Daughters of Cacophony PAAD Module This was the first module I made using Bloodlines cards. It seemed the easiest and most effective way to play with the Daughters to see how they would affect voting. Deck Name: Daughters of Cacophony PAAD Module Created By: Ethan Burrow Description: Mel/For module that adds more votes since we're adding more vote modifiers. More combat defense, and unblockable actions for the kill bleed.
