MALKAVIAN ANTITRIBU NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2001

Malkavian Antitribu November Newsletter
Volume 712.12954, Issue -3.
Whatever

I. Introduction.

For what it's worth, I'm going to try my hand at one of these
newsletters. This one, in fact. I'm not too sure how this is
going to turn out. If this and the next few issues come out
pretty good, then I guess I'll keep the job. Otherwise, I'll
resign in shame and turn in the keys to the Ferrari along with
the 7 figure salary that comes with writing these oddball news-
letters.
Hah! I bet you guys didn't know there are certain perks to
writing these things, did you? :p Of course, it would be nice
of those actually were the perks.

II. Fan fiction.

There's a fictional fan. If you wave your monitor back and forth
(or up and down) fast enough, you might just feel the breeze.

You were expecting something else?

III. Why us?

While not as powerful offensively as their Camarilla brethren, the
Malkavian Antitribu are nothing to sneeze at. They have the same
defenses available to their counterparts but also have something the
Malkavians lack: combat offensive power. Not only that, but they
have tricks available to spread their madness to create speed bumps
for the other player's decks. This section will be devoted to cards,
card combos or strategies that the Malkavian Antitribu can make
particular use of and to show why you'd want to use them.

This month I was going to discuss a great anti bleed combo using
"Blessing of Chaos", but I'll save that for another time. Keep you
guys on the edge of your keyboards waiting for that issue (yeah,
right. :p)

Anyways, this months combo involves the following cards:

Kindred Spirits [Sabbat, SW]
Cardtype: Action
Discipline: Dementation
Rarity: Common
[dem] <(D)> Bleed any Methuselah. Gain 1 pool if bleed is successful.
[DEM] As above, with +1 bleed.

and

Scrying of Secrets [Sabbat, SW]
Cardtype: Action Modifier
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: Auspex
Rarity: Uncommon
Only usable when this vampire successfully bleeds a Methuselah.
[aus] Look at the next seven cards in that Methuselah's library.
[AUS] As above, and if any of those cards are action cards that can be
used to bleed, that Methuselah discards your choice of one of those
cards.

With Kindred spirits, not only are you reducing the targetted meth's
pool but you are also gaining pool. And on top of that, you can
bleed any Methuselah on the table. While I'm sure that reasons may
crop up to make you want to bleed cross table, aside from your prey
(against whom you would use the superior ability), the best player to
bleed would be your predator (using the inferior ability of the card;
don't want to make it too easy for your grand predator).

Why would you want to bleed your predator? Well, to use Scrying
of Secrets, of course. This is especially important when your predator
is a bleed deck and you aren't holding any Telepathic Misdirections
or Counters. Not only can you see what your predator has in store
for you but you can also make it a bit harder for her to oust you by
burning any bleed actions you discover. Spying on your predator's
resources is also a great way to let you know when you'd want to hold
on to or play your Misdirections/Counters. When bleeding your prey,
using SoS is good not only to see what defenses she may have in the
next few turns but also to slow down her offensive against your grand
prey and thus giving you a bit more time to oust.

By using Obfuscate as a support discipline, you should have little
difficulty being able to push Kindred Spirits through. Especially
good obfuscate cards would be Elder Impersonation, Faceless Night
and Cloak the Gathering. The latter to help stealth through those
low capacity vamps that don't start with Obfuscate with the two
former to foil or frustrate block/intercept decks. You shouldn't
rely _too_ heavily on stealth because your prey/pred will just stop
blocking in hopes that you will jam up on stealth. Using SoS to
scout our their respective defenses is a good way to let you know
if and when you may need that stealth.

Here is a list of vampires that can utilize this combo:

          Relevant
Capacity Disciplines Name
------------------------------
4 AUS, dem Idalia, Prophet of Guadalahara
4 aus, dem, obf Claven
5 aus, DEM Muriel Foucade
6 aus, DEM, OBF Artemis
6 AUS, DEM, OBF Dolphin Black
7 AUS, DEM, OBF Korah
7 AUD, DEM, obf Kite
8 AUS, DEM, OBF Theron
8 AUS, DEM, OBF Virgil
9 AUS, DEM, OBF Vasantasena
9 AUS, DEM, obf Imogen
10 AUS, DEM, OBF Hannibal

Double up on a few of the lower capacity vampires and include a few
of the 8+ caps and you have a pretty well rounded crypt that has
both offensive and defensive capabilities.

Comments: Quira is in there because she has +1 bleed, OBF and AUS.
She can get a Pulse and wreak havoc on your prey using SoS. If you slap
the Dementation skill card on her, she can use Kindred Spirits to start gaining
you some pool. Jake Washington is a great early game throw away as a
blocker or late in the game to keep one of your vamps from hunting. Visit
from the Capuchin and Dreams are a great way to cycle your hand. When
you have both out, you can get a hand size of 13, giving you a much wider
range of options for your turn. Every time I've ever used Visit in any deck
I've included it in, I've never had a problem with burning it the turn it was
played.

V. Final

If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them. If you have
any complaints, well, you can just talk to the hand. :p Actually, if you
don't have any specific comments on this newsletter and if you are feeling
particularly philanthropic, I'd love to hear what you thought of it so I'll
have some idea as to whether or not I should continue. Please send those
emails to my email address, however, and not the NG.
