Well, I’ve been considering writing a newsletter for some time about my favorite clan, the followers of Set. Lets get this show on the road shall we? Discipline Focus: Serpentis Each month I will endeavor to talk about one of the disciplines that make up the Followers of Set. Being the first issue it is only logical that we consider the prime discipline of the Clan, Serpentis So, what does serpentis bring to the table that other disciplines can’t offer? The most obvious of course is corruption in all its myriad forms. Although the ability to steal minions is not exclusively the domain of serpentis, it is one of its most often used abilities. That being said, it is not the only thing serpentis is good for. It provides cards to cover all of the basics except for intercept and vote push (combat, stealth, bleeding, action options, bleed reduction and of course, corruption), making it quite a versatile discipline on the whole. One downside of Serpentis however, is that it is an inherently expensive discipline to use a lot of in a deck and the actions that you really do wish came with inherent stealth, don’t. Oh well, it’s good thing it has a nice multifunctional stealth card by way of form of the serpent. (and a path to reduce the cost is nice too) Vampire of the Month: Kephamos, High Priest of Marrakech Kephamos, High Priest of Marrakech Clan: Follower of Set (group 2) Capacity: 8 Disciplines: SER dom obf pre Independent: Kephamos has 2 votes. +1 bleed. At first glance Kephamos looks overcosted for his abilities. With only having one in-clan superior discipline, he is easily passed over for Amisa, who at the same capacity has Superior serpentis, obsfucate and 2 votes as well. What she does lack is the inherent +1 bleed that Kephamos has. As well as all three clan disciplines, he also has inferior dominate which can allow a deck based around him access to bleed bounces which in a deck with limited intercept can be a blessing. He is a solid addition to any serpentis heavy deck that likes to have some table presence when it comes to votes. Honorary Settite: Cybele Cybele Clan: Baali (group 4) Capacity: 10 Disciplines: ANI DAI OBF PRE SER THA Independent: If Cybele is untapped during your master phase, you get an additional master phase action. Cybele may bleed at +2 bleed as (D) action that costs 1 blood. Infernal. Whoa momma. Extra master phase actions, built in bleed bonus and all three settite clan skills at superior, what’s not to like about Cybele? Sure she’s expensive and being infernal can get a bit costly on the untap side of things, but damn she’s cool. Cybele’s out of clan Thaumaturgy also blends well with many of the newer group 3-4 followers. Card of the month: Truth of a thousand lies Truth of a Thousand Lies Type: Action Modifier Requires: Serpentis Cost: 2 blood [ser] +2 bleed. After playing this card, you cannot play another action modifier to further increase the bleed for this action. [SER] Only usable at the end of a successful action. This vampire untaps. Whilst being blood intensive, Truth of a thousand lies is a great multifunctional card. On its own it is probably too expensive to use as a staple card, but combined with the path of Typhon its cost becomes more manageable. +2 bleed for the cost of one blood is on par with cards such as conditioning and is superior to Aire of elation for a non toreador deck as it only requires inferior serpentis to get the +2 bleed. Without any other modifiers it delivers a bleed of 3, which for most bleeds is enough if it is repeatable by many minions and keeps it under the radar of those pesky Archon Investigations. Supplying an untap at superior is just brilliant, allowing one minion to both vote/act and then bleed (with the same card) is gold. Deck of the Month: Unleash The Snakes This deck takes advantage of both Kephamos and Truth of a Thousand lies in order to both pass votes for pool gain and untap and then bleed. Whilst still being under construction I thought I would throw it out there for comments and corrections as players see fit.
