Wes Weston 1970 Currently, I work as tech support for a large ISP. I would not say that this defines who I am in any way however. Currently, not a lot. I occasionally play V:tM (the RPG). I am a fairly proficient chess player but rarely play at this point in my life. Eesh... Three large boxes and a few piles that won't fit into them. Never really counted them... tens of thousands I should think. Only six at any given time. I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada but play mostly in Toronto and (pre-911) Detroit. I am also one of the more prolific moderators for Jyhad Online, so you could say that I play mostly in cyberspace. I am currently the *only* player in Windsor so I very rarely play here. |

Q1: How (and when) did you begin your career as a VTES-player? Who introduced you to the game? Where did you play originally? I discovered the game when I made a sales call to a local gaming store in Windsor (I was not a gamer) and instantly fell in love with the theme of the Vampire: the Masquerade world (though I was very wary of gaming in general). I thought Jyhad looked like an interesting concept so I bought a starter for myself and then two more for some friends of mine. I gave them to them as gifts, but like all gifts they were really just thinly veiled Trojan Horses designed to get my friends to play the game with me. This worked well and soon there were about eight of us playing, albeit very irregularly. None of those players still play V:tES unfortunately. I still give out free starters as Trojan Horse gifts and two of the Detroit players I introduced the game to are now winning tournaments, which makes me very proud. |
Q2: Which of the Sets and Expansions to VTES is your favorite, and why is it your top choice? I think Final Nights was probably the best expansion for the game, if only because it filled out some badly needed holes. I do think that a few holes still exist and a few more are now being dug, but I'm mostly a minority in this opinion. I would also say Sabbat War did a lot for the game as it essentially brought this game back from the dead. I didn't even know White Wolf had bought the rights until I saw it in a gaming store... (the same store mentioned above who became dear friends of mine.) |

Q3: What is your favorite deck to play, and why? I prefer fast, brutal and very competitive decks that terrorize my prey but leave myself pretty much open to attack from my predator. Not to plagiarize Jeff's answer, but it has been said about me that I make a nasty predator but a very tame prey. Having said that, I don't really stick to one type of deck. I've tried them all and I am equally at home with any type of deck. I tend not to play Malkavians (or other sneak bleed decks) because I find them very boring but that's about it. My most recent favourite deck would have to be my Ahrimanes wall deck which has won two tournaments and tends to dominate any table it sits down at. I find pride in my skills that I can strike fear in the eyes of people who formerly denounced the 'kitty kats' as being useless.CRYPT [12 Vampires] 4 Howler - 8 3 Siamese - 7 2 Cynthia Ingold - 6 Gillian Krader - 2 Antoinette DuChamp - 1 Navar McClaren - 1 Total 69 -- Max 32 -- Min 10 -- Avg 5.75 LIBRARY [90 cards; 16 Master, 74 Minion] 4 Blood Doll 2 Minion Tap Animalism Club Zombie Depravity Fame Guardian Angel Haven Uncovered Jake Washington Pentex Subversion The Rack The Rumor Mill, Tabloid Newspaper 10 Speak with Spirits 10 Swiftness of the Stag 6 Falcon's Eye 3 Nose of the Hound Engling Fury 8 Carrion Crows 4 Cat's Guidance 3 Tier of Souls 2 Army of Rats 2 Murder of Crows Owl Companion 4 Legal Manipulations 4 Majesty The Summoning 2 Hidden Lurker 6 Taste of Vitae 2 Leather Jacket Sanguine Instruction The Wildebeest High Top Ivory Bow Laptop Computer |
Q4: If you could add something to the game, what would it be? I think that a few of the clans are still very weak compared to others and I think these issues need to be addressed. It's hard to say right now though because we are all still getting used to the addition of Bloodlines and Camarilla Edition. I don't feel like I can accurately state where the game should be going without having time to digest where we are right now. Other than that, I don't think much needs to be added. This game is extremely elegant and well thought out as it is right now and I do not feel that adding to perfection will make it more perfect. While I realize that White Wolf needs to keep selling product, I think the game would be fine if it stopped right now. I am most definitely in the minority in this opinion however. I'd like to see the Gangrel brought up to speed, clans like the Assamites buffed a bit but other than that I don't think there's a lot that the game needs and adding more may be detrimental to the quality of the game. |

Q5: What do you do to help promote the game / why are you in this list of people? I am in this list of people because |
Q6: What is your favorite deck style for casual play / tournament play? I don't alter my style at all for casual or tournament play. Mostly my casual decks are works in progress that are in the process of being refined for the next tournament I attend. I think every game should be played as if everything counted on it. While I am often amused by trick decks, I'm much more impressed if they actually win. This is not to say that I do not experiment--I'm a regular mad scientist! But all of my creations are desgined with the intent of winning the game and not with impressing my peers. I realize that I probably differ from many players in this philosophy... keep in mind that I am always the first to offer my hand in congratulations when I am ousted. I love winning yes, but not to the the extent of being a bad sport.Q7: Is there a difference between your casual play and tournament play? Answered in Q6 very clearly. |
