Q1: How (and when) did you begin your career as a VTES-player? Who introduced you to the game? Where did you play originally?

I used to share a house with Jon Sushinsky, a very active player in DC. He hosted weekly games at the house, and I started playing around 1999. Jon is now the V:EKN Prince of Denver, I believe.

Q2: Which of the Sets and Expansions to VTES is your favorite, and why is it your top choice?

I don't have a clear-cut favorite. I kind of like Final Nights, for making the Independents into viable clans, and also for having such nice utility cards either reprinted (like Dreams of the Sphinx) or created (like Jake Washington) in that set. I also like Sabbat War, because War Ghouls are fun, and when it came out, it proved that White Wolf was serious about the game.

Q3: What is your favorite deck to play, and why?

I used to have a fun "Tariq eats World" deck that I enjoyed playing. I believe Josh started using that phrase to describe my deck on the newsgroup. Josh thought it was particularly funny the one time I said while playing it, "I could tell after the first combat that he didn't have any prevention, so I had to eat the rest of his vampires this turn before he drew into some." I made it to one of our DC tournament finals with it but Josh's cursed Blood Brothers beat me up.

Q4: If you could add something to the game, what would it be?

I think the game is doing fine, and doesn't need my meddling.

Q5: What do you do to help promote the game / why are you in this list of people?

Uh, I guess because I made the final round of both of the only 2 North American Championships to date. Also I run the DC VTES website at http://dc.vekn.org/ I lurk on the newsgroup, and have done some traveling to play all along the East coast. Josh claims I'm infamous.

Q6: What is your favorite deck style for casual play / tournament play?

I like toolboxy weenies with good permanents. On the one hand I kind of don't like weenies (I certainly don't like when my predator has weenies), but on the other hand I feel that weenies have advantages that can't be ignored. In the past, I was burned when playing decks that focused on a certain vampire by cards like Temptation of Greater Power (now fixed, thank you LSJ!), so I have always leaned towards weenies for serious tournament play. I do try to build a robust deck around them, however, and not just a bland 20 Stealth, 20 Computer Hack, 20 Dodge deck. For casual play I'll try whatever, although I'm not nearly as creative as the other players in my group, who do all kinds of things, sometimes with spectacular results, sometimes with hilarious results.

Q7: Is there a difference between your casual play and tournament play?

We allow "takebacks" in casual play and play stupid decks. We still try not to play stupidly however.
