Q1: How (and when) did you begin your career as a VTES-player? Who introduced you to the game? Where did you play originally?

In autumn of 1994, I was starting my studies at the local university. An old friend of mine who had gone to Montreal to pursue his studies came back home for the long september weekend and talked about Jyhad, a new card game that was supposed to be good. He intended to go buy some cards and I went along with him to the gaming shop. That’s how I bought my first starter and a couple of booster packs. I then convinced a few local friends to start playing in the campus cafeteria during lunch hours. That’s how I started to play.

Q2: Which of the Sets and Expansions to VTES is your favorite, and why is it your top choice?

Final Night is in my opinion the best set WW has made so far considering the needs of the players at the time. Not only did it bring the independent clans back to par with the ones from the 2 sects, it also introduced some cool cards that allowed new strategies (I’m mainly thinking about Jake Washington and the whole Warghoul thing). Not to mention that it also contained reprints of some good old cards in the starters (The Parthenon and Dreams of the Sphinx among others).

Q3: What is your favorite deck to play, and why?

Malks with permacept / Milicent Smith / Lunatic Eruption
Big Malks with Derange / Malkavian Dementia / Social Ladder (or Golconda)
Toreanti with Embrace / Palla Grande
Tzimisce with Warghoul / Jake Wahington
Salubri with Spirit Marionette / Heidelberg Castle
Caillean with Disguised Weapon / MarkV

Q4: If you could add something to the game, what would it be?

I think that White-Wolf is doing a extremely good work with VTES but a few more (not many) crypt and library cards for the existing bloodlines would help the game I believe. If I could turn back time, I would also try to do something to prevent the necessity for White-Wolf to introduce the grouping rule.

Q5: What do you do to help promote the game / why are you in this list of people?

I guess I made the « who’s who list» because I drew the attention in 2002 playing a nasty Embrace / Palla Grande all the way to the NAC’s final and then winning in 2004 with a modified version of the same deck.
Being a VEKN prince, I do also promote the game at a local level. I run tournaments and run demos like any other I suppose.
[Interviewer's note: Christian won the 2004 North American Continental Championships.]

Q6: What is your favorite deck style for casual play / tournament play?

In both casual or tournament play, I enjoy playing strong decks that will make a lasting impact on my prey and predator. I don’t like to see my starting pred or prey run with a win so I try to break either‘s leg early on in a game.

Q7: Is there a difference between your casual play and tournament play?

I tend to worry less about winning when playing for fun but I always try to come out on top no matter what game situation I‘m in.
In VTES like in life, I try to be honest and to always remain true to my word. I despise those who break their deals (especially in casual games since there‘s not much to gain from it) and will try to make them pay dearly if possible, even if I’m not the one who got the shaft.
