Q1: How (and when) did you begin your career as a VTES-player? Who introduced you to the game? Where did you play originally? Began playing in 2000 when Sabbat War was released by White Wolf. Eric Spletzer, the owner of the game store where we played at the time knew I liked the World of Darkness and overheard me talking about playing Pokemon with my sons. He talked the game up and I bought some cards online we played weekly at the store until it closed. |
Q2: Which of the Sets and Expansions to VTES is your favorite, and why is it your top choice? Probably Gehenna, because love them or hate them, the Event mechanic has added a new dimension to the game. |
Q3: What is your favorite deck to play, and why? Probably would be some version of weenie potence. It can be found in the TWDA here: http://www.thelasombra.com/decks/twd.htm#2k3strangercolumbus I like any form of combat deck, but with that deck type, I feel comfortable and in control at most tables. |
Q4: If you could add something to the game, what would it be? Some alternate format or “duel” type that could be played/taught in less than 30 minutes. One hurdle this great game has is bringing in new players, partly because of its learning curve – partly because of its length. I’ve just always felt it was a shame to not be able to sit down and play a “quick game of VTES”. |
Q5: What do you do to help promote the game / why are you in this list of people? I’m the VEKN Prince of Cincinnati and try to keep organized play here going. Ohio has a great group of Princes of which I’m proud to be a part. We travel quite a bit to play and make at least two large conventions a year. I’m a decent player, known mostly for playing combat – but I think now I’m known mostly for being the guy bringing his 7 year old to play in VTES tournaments. |
Q6: What is your favorite deck style for casual play / tournament play? For casual play, I’ll play just about anything – actually some of my favorite decks to play are other people’s creations. I like to see how someone else thinks a deck’s construction through.Tournament play, is usually something extremely focused. If I had to choose one common theme with my tournament decks is they tend to do one thing very, very well. |
Q7: Is there a difference between your casual play and tournament play? Definitely, in casual play, I play all kinds of trick decks and other people’s decks. Occasionally I’ve played other’s decks in tournaments, but rarely have I played any gimmick or trick decks. |
