BY NIGHT new cards ideas --------------------------- It's been a while since the By Night theme was mentioned. I think it would be a nice way to introduce new mechanisms in the game, and a mood to boot ! New vampires could be made with the titles of new cities (maybe from several groups, including Adv vampires ?) ; new Fee Stakes would be made, maybe just a few new Praxis + Crusades with interesting bonuses (like Berlin), just not taking (too many ? any ?) Rare slots... Here are 3 ways I think this could be handled : 1) The By Night "regular" cards They are usual card types with the By Night mention. Examples (not necessarily balanced, just to give the general idea) : Chicago Blues Master Chicago By Night 1 pool. Put on the uncontested Prince, Archbishop or Baron of Chicago. This vampire makes +1 damage when striking with guns. The City That Never Sleeps Reaction New York By Night The uncontested Prince, Archbishop or Baron of New York can [insert text of Second Tradition] Drinking the Lifeblood Political Action Los Angeles By Night Requires the uncontested Prince, Archbishop or Baron of Los Angeles. Choose a methuselah. If this referendum is succesful, that methuselah looses 3 pool and you gain 3 pool. Giving the Blood +1 stealth Action Montreal By Night Requires the uncontested Prince, Archbishop or Baron of Montreal Put this card into play and untap the acting vampire ; this vampire can make a +1 stealth action to put 2 blood from the blood bank on a vampire of the same sect in your uncontrolled region. not all the cards need to name a city : Absolute Ruler Master Card By Night 1 pool Choose the uncontested Prince, Archbishop or Baron of any city among the ready vampires you control. This vampire has +1 vote and +1 bleed. All your other Princes, Archbishop or Barons have -1 vote. A methuselah can only have 1 Absolute Ruler. 2) The By Night "Campaign" card Before the game, either the players agree on a city to conquer or each brings a special BY NIGHT CAMPAIGN card and one is chosen randomly (put one card per player, unprotected and back up, on the table, mix them, pick one at random) ; in (unnoficial) tournament, the organizer can put them randomly on each table, in a way similar to the Gehenna league (or the Malkavian Wheel we play in Paris). BY NIGHT CAMPAIGN rules : The BNC card is put, uncontrolled, on the center of the table. As long as it is uncontrolled, it affects the whole table. If it is controlled, it will affect only the controller. Normal Play Mode : to gain control of an uncontrolled BNC card, a methuselah must succeed in one of the following : - take a D action to control the card ; every methuselah may try to block that action - pass a referendum to control this card ; every methuselah may try to block that action to gain control of an controlled BNC card, you must succeed in a D action against the card, where the card controller's minions gain +2 intercept against that action, or succeed in a referendum where the card controller gains 4 votes in that referendum. Examples of By Night Campaign card : Marseille By Night Campaign Card All affected methuselahs gain +1 stealth when equipping with weapons. If this card is controlled, the controller's minions gain 1 maneuver when using a weapon in combat. Venezia By Night Campaign Card All affected methuselahs gain + 1 stealth when recruiting Zombies. If this card is controlled, all the controller's wraith allies gain +1 bleed. These are just examples, so you get the routine... We tried such "table effects" in our league in Marseille and it was pretty fun. League Mode : if and when a Game Win is made on a table, the winner gains control of the card for the rest of the league ; it cannot be stolen from him anymore, whether he wants it or not ; the owner will have to choose another BNC card on his next table ; if the owner wins a new Campaign card, he will be considered to control both towns, and will be aither a) have both effects or b) choose one of them on each of his tables at the beginning of the game. The league organizer will have to keep track of the controlled cities, which won't be proposed on other tables. The winner of the league will be the first to control X cities. Tournament Mode : same as league mode, but over the preliminary rounds of the tournament ; in the finals, only the already controlled cities will have an effect on their controllers. ......................... Let it be noted that both card types can be used in the same games, only the second type must be optionnal and played only if all players agree on it, while the first doesn't need it.
